Peter Okoye : Family Recovered from Covid19 After 3wks Of Hell
Singer Peter Okoye, popularly known as ‘’Mr P’’ is counting his blessings after him, wife, seven-year-old daughter and two domestic workers (a cook and a nanny) recovered from COVID-19 recently.
The singer shocked his over 9.1 million followers on Instagram on Saturday when he narrated his family’s emotionally draining and hellish experience while self-isolating in their home.
In the 18 minutes clip, Peter, who was a former member of the defunct P-square group said he thought it was the end for him since he couldn’t even comfort his seven-year-old daughter.
He said, ‘’For the past three weeks, I have been ill and most people didn’t even know what was wrong with me. I kept it to myself. It has been three weeks of hell for me and my family. I had COVID19 for about three weeks and it happened to me. I was sick and I tested positive. It’s been hell for this family in this house. Not just I, even two of my domestic workers.
“After a week, my daughter caught the virus as well. It was sad that when she caught it, the doctor insisted that she has to be self-isolated in her room. I couldn’t even see my sick daughter, I felt so bad because I felt that I am the one who actually brought the virus to the house. It was so bad that I had to be calling her on video, ch
ecking on her.’
The ‘’Shekini’’ crooner, who broke down in tears at some point, also commended his wife’s bravery for risking self to take care of their little girl.
“The next day, my wife did something very courageous. She picked our daughter from her room, held her and took her to the master bedroom and she called me and she started crying. I asked her what happened and she said ‘I’ll rather contract COVID-19 than allow this little girl to suffer.’ Five or six days later, my daughter was pronounced negative. When she was pronounced negative, we knew it wasn’t going to end there. The next day, Lola became positive. It’s been three weeks in hell in this house. This virus is real, it’s like I eventually saw death. It got to a point where I said this is it. The good thing is that we have all been tested negative. If you think this virus is fake or you don’t know anyone who has had the experience, I, Peter Okoye tell you that it’s real.”
This revelation has since attracted sympathy from celebrities and well-wishers. However, some sympathisers noted that while Mr P praised his friends for their support, he was silent about his family. But he provided a defence. He said “The reasons some of my friends knew my family and I contracted the virus was because I didn’t want them to come and pay me a visit, but I told them not to tell anyone about it. I’m happy that none of them told anyone but I promised that once I’m fine, I’ll tell my experience. My album was delayed because of the virus.’’
